I've been a creative person all my life, but have been specifically practicing silk painting techniques for more than thirteen years. I created Carrie Wright Silk in 2018 to justify my desire to devote all of my working hours to becoming a master silk painter before I die. During the autumn of 2018, I submitted my work to my first official art jury process and thereby successfully achieved the designation as an official Indiana Artisan. In 2019 I was bestowed the honor of creating official gifts of state, original handprinted silk scarves, for our Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and First Lady Janet Holcomb, a work that continues to this day. In 2021 I applied and was juried into the 97th Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition, later earning a First Place award at the Hoosier Salon Good 'Ole Summertime Exhibit.
In 2006 I made a significant life choice to leave corporate America behind. After six years of business travel three weeks out of every month, I'd had enough! These days I'm working in my 10'x10' home studio painting silk, exploring new ways of expressing the ideas on my mind and investigating anything and everything there is to know about making beautiful marks on this special surface. Being mostly self-taught in this medium, I feel complete freedom to combine ancient and innovative techniques. Although I work creatively in a variety of media, my creative passion is usually best expressed through silk painting. Hopefully, you can see my joy of painting pouring out of the work.
